Skin Tone Shades
Posted on 11 May 2017
We've been stocking skin tone shades of fabric for our dolly maker friends for what seems like forever so we think we have a pretty good handle on what manufacturers, ranges and colours you like.
Firstly, we start with the Kona Cotton Solids range from Robert Kaufman. The 'Rolls Royce' of skin tone shades, they have been keeping us busy for years. We split them into two; pink and khaki based shades. We have some real life images to share with you so you can see the difference between them.
Pink Tones
From top to bottom we have: Peony, Flesh, Pale Flesh, Pearl Pink, Snow, Light Parfait, Ice Peach and Peach.
Khaki Tones
From top to bottom we have: Mocha, Biscuit, Honey, Sand, Khaki, Tan, Cream and Putty.
You can view our Kona Cotton Solids range here.
Makower Spectrum Solids
Exactly the same weight and feel, Makower UK have a range called 'Spectrum Solids'. They have recently increased their range to 72 and have introduced some colours that make perfect skin tones for dolly making. We stock all 72 shades!
We have selected the three best shades for skin tones: 'Biscuit', 'Pastel Pink' and 'Nude'. We've taken a real life image of these three shades, which always demonstrates the colour so much better than digital swatches.
On the left is 'Biscuit Q44', in the middle is 'Pastel Pink P01' and on the right is 'Nude P71'. Some of the shade names overlap with other brands, so don't let that confuse you!
'Biscuit' is very similar to Kona's 'Khaki' or 'Tan' - but is not to be confused with Kona's own 'Biscuit' shade! 'Pastel Pink' is very similar to Kona's 'Flesh' and we think 'Nude is a perfect combination of Kona's 'Light Parfait' and 'Pale Flesh'.
Makower's Spectrum Solids come in at a slightly lower price point and are the usual 100% cotton that we stock. You'd be hard pressed to tell the difference in quality between Kona and Spectrum. You can view them all here.
And finally, if you're a soft toy manufacturer requiring certification for your fabrics for your technical file, please a look at this post where we provide the most up to date information for all the manufacturers we stock. We've also had the three Makower Spectrum Solid skin tones shades (Biscuit, Pastel Pink and Nude) EN71-3 tested at our cost. More information will be available in the coming weeks.
